Petr Fulín, driving a Krenek Motorsport BMW 320si, was fastest during the first Testing session at the Salzburgring with a best lap time of 1:30.887.

Second quickest was the SEAT León of Igor Skuz (1:31.709) although, just as at the previous ETCC meeting in Slovakia, it was the former SEAT Sport factory driver Jordi Gené who was at the wheel for the fastest lap while helping the Campos Racing team with the car’s set-up.
The leading SEAT León Supercópa of the Single-Make Trophy competitors was that of local racer Mario Dablander (1:32.137) while it was the Ford Fiesta of Kevin Krammes that headed the Super 1600 entrants with a best lap of 1:42.219.

The other Austrian driver, Wolfgang Treml who joins the series in a Campos Racing SEAT León, set the tenth fastest lap (fifth in S2000) of 1:32.773

Several incidents occurred during the one-hour session, with fuel feed problems forcing Andreas Pfister to stop at Turn 13 after around twenty minutes. Less than ten minutes later came the most serious incident, when the BMW of Christian Fischer went off into the barriers at Turn 10 and the circuit’s medical teams were deployed to remove the driver from the car. Fischer was taken to the medical centre for a check-up and then transferred to Salzburg’s hospital for taking X-rays of his backbone.

The red flags came out again with around eleven minutes of the session remaining when the SEAT of Mikhail Maleev stopped on the outside of Turn 10 and the car had to be recovered. Dušan Borković, meanwhile, failed to complete a single timed lap during the session because of gearbox problems.
