Křenek Motorsport revs up for ETCC bid

Top team Křenek Motorsport will enter at least two cars in next season’s FIA European Touring Car Cup.

Based in Czech Republic, Křenek Motorsport has re-signed Petr Fulín and recruited Swiss ETCC newcomer Christjohannes Schreiber to drive a pair of TCN2-specification SEAT León Cup Racers in the 12-round FIA international-level championship. Meanwhile, the decision on whether to expand to a three-car line-up will be taken before the end of the year.

Fulín, who narrowly missed out on this season’s ETCC Single Make Trophy title but has a long record of success in the series, said: “I can hardly wait for the new season to start and am really happy to have a young talented driver alongside me. I haven’t yet met Christjohannes in person but I have only heard positive things about him. I am looking forward to the preparation of this new season together. The experience shows that with more cars with comparable drivers‘ talent in one team, the amount of data collected in the short time is something that can make us stronger.”

Schreiber met team Křenek Motorsport in the Clio Cup Bohemia series. He said: “I have had great fun in single-make motorsport and have experienced a great sport. At the end of this season in the Clio Cup I have felt the feeling that I should move on to further develop. I am ready to take up a new challenge.”

As well as success with Fulín in the 2015 ETCC, Křenek Motorsport guided Michal Matějovský to the TC2 spoils in a BMW.

ETCC season 2016 gets underway at Circuit Paul Ricard in France from 1-3 April when the FIA’s new TCN2 technical regulations will come on stream. The championship will also include two races on the legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife for the first time plus a street race in Vila Real, Portugal.
