Petr Fulín recovered from a difficult start to his FIA European Touring Car Cup weekend at the Nürburgring Nordschleife by leading Free Practice 1, as three different cars filled the top three places.

Fulín, who began the season with a double win at Paul Ricard in his Krenek Motorsport SEAT, suffered from fuel pressure and power steering problems in Testing and failed to set a time, but was quickest by almost three seconds in the Thursday evening session.

Teddy Clairet concluded a strong first day in the ETCC for both himself and the Peugeot 308 Racing Cup with the second best time, having been third in Testing. Kris Richard, the double winner at the Slovakia Ring, was third in his Rikli Motorsport Honda Civic.

Fábio Mota beat Testing pacesetter Peter Rikli into fourth, whilst David Pouget put the second 308 into the top six. The SEAT quartet of Christjohannes Schreiber, Igor Stefanovski, Norbert Nagy and Mladen Lalušić filled the remainder of the top 10 places.

The Super 1600 field took to the track for the first time with points leader Niklas Mackshin quickest on home ground, but the German had debutant David Griessner for close company. Ukrainians Pavlo Kopylets and Sergii Kravets were split by just a tenth in third and fourth.
