René Münnich claimed a last-gasp pole position for his maiden FIA European Touring Car Cup appearance in this weekend’s ETCC Race of Paul Ricard.

Münnich, who is on double duty in France in both the ETCC and FIA World Touring Car Championship, went top of the times on his last lap, setting a time of 1m36.066s to beat Petr Fulín by 0.197 seconds.

Behind TCN2-specification Honda Civic driver Münnich, there were a quartet of SEAT León cars, with Fulín followed by Norbert Nagy, Christjohannes Schreiber and Pierre Humbert, who’s standing in for Andreas Pfister.

Peter Rikli was sixth in his Honda, split from his new team-mate Kris Richard by Mladen Lalušić, with the top eight covered by only just over half a second. Igor Stefanovski and Fábio Mota completed the top 10.

In 12th overall, Niklas Mackschin claimed the S1600 class pole, while Kevin Hilgenhövel pipped Ulrike Krafft to second place.
