It has become a rule that the final race of the FIA ETCC season is held in Italy. The only exception was in 2013, when the season final took place on the Czech racetrack of Brno. In the year 2014 and 2015 the last race was hosted in Pergusa Sicily. This year’s final will be at the famous Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Imola.

Krenek Motorsport will return on the very same track, where Petr Fulin experienced his first FIA ETCC season final back in 2012, together with his teammate Jaromir Stadler.

This year, Petr Fulin and Christjohannes Schreiber, who will race his first ETCC finale, will race together under the flag of Krenek Motorsport.

While Schreiber will battle for seventh position of the championship, Petr Fulin will fight for overall victory together with Kris Richard.

After five races, Petr Fulin and Kris Richard will go with the same amount of points (92) into the sixth and last race of the season, guaranteeing a dramatic finale.

Also racing for Krenek Motorsport on this weekend, is Tomas Koreny. Koreny is in the overall classification of the S1600 class in current fourth position, only nine points behind the German Kevin Hilgenhövel.

“I am happy that the final race of this years FIA ETCC championship will take place in Imola. A classic racetrack with a huge history. The circuit is very demanding for the drivers and especially in the quick chicanes it is not always easy to find the right compromise between aggressive and clean driving. Furthermore in Imola, the brakes are extremely important and unlike to most of the other circuits, the racing direction is counter clockwise. It will not be an easy weekend for my people, but I have great drivers and I am sure the will to a splendid job. Entering the race, it is always good to be humble but also with the knowledge, that defending the title is a possible task,” said team boss Josef Krenek before arriving in Italy.

What the drivers said:

Petr Fulin: “The summer break was really long and I am looking forward to be back on the racetrack. Every ride in the racecar is a great experience. Imola is beautiful racetrack and I always specially enjoyed my races there. Even if we do not win the fight down there in Italy, I want to leave Imola with the feeling that we achieved a good result. That is my goal!”

Christjohannes Schreiber: “I did race with Clio Cup Italy in Imola and I always did like the circuit. My position on the overall ranking is not so good and the last four races I had to retire due to technical problems. I am hungry for racing and ready to put a good end to this year’s season.”

Tomas Koreny: “I am looking forward to race on this historic Italian racetrack! The summer break was awfully long and I can not wait to be back in the car for a FIA ETCC race. Being nine points behind Kevin, it is more about what he does, than what I am doing. But will do my best to the final round and see what happens.”

This final race of this year’s FIA ETCC will be live broadcast on Eurosport 2. Race one at 12:30 am and the second race will start at 13:30 am.
